2011 AAP Conference Exhibit Report

I joined the Chair of F.E.A.S.T.’s Medical Education Task Force, M.B. Krohel, in Boston this week to help out at our exhibitor table at the American Academy for Pediatrics annual conference.MEDA’s Kristin Tyman was also there to lend a hand as we distributed the AED Medical Care Standards booklet to conference attendees. The table, and the Standards, were a big hit!Ellen Rome, a member of the Academy for Eating Disorders Task Force that created the booklet, introduced Krohel and myself at a business meeting of the Adolescent Medicine group where we had the opportunity to meet some of the clinicians most interested in the topic. We had a visit from Elizabeth M. Alderman, M.D., FAAP, chair of the AAP Section on Adolescent Health Executive Committee, who was quoted in the AAP Bulletin announcing their endorsement of the Guide booklet. My sincere gratitude goes out to Krohel, the AED Task Force, MEDA, and the F.E.A.S.T. Medical Education Task Force for this collaborative milestone. It is one of our goals as an organization that we support good work going on in the field and in this case we so enthusiastically support coming together over this booklet’s distribution. We managed to hand-distribute over 1000 booklets to doctors on site, often with substantive conversations about the issues. Krohel and Tyman boxed and packaged over 1,200 booklets requested by physicians to be mailed directly for use during trainings or distribution to large organization’s staff. As we heard over and over during the weekend from physicians from around the world: “This is so needed! Thank you!”
