Angela Guarda M.D. is the Stephen and Jean Robinson Professor of Eating Disorders and Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She has been the Director of the Eating Disorders Program at Johns Hopkins Hospital since 1997. Dr Guarda attended Johns Hopkins University as an undergraduate, obtained her medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and completed residency in Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins including an externship in eating disorders at the Maudsley Hospital. She is an active clinician, educator and researcher and has published and presented extensively. Her clinical research interests include improving treatment outcomes and rates of meal-based weight restoration for anorexia nervosa and ARFID as well as medical and ethical issues surrounding the treatment of extreme anorexia nervosa. She has received grant funding from both the NIH and the Klarman Family Foundation and is involved in neuroimaging research examining neural mechanisms of appetite dysregulation that may contribute to the driven nature of eating disorders. Dr. Guarda is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a Fellow of the Academy of Eating Disorders and member of the Eating Disorders Research Society, an inducted member of the Miller Coulson Academy of Clinical Excellence and has been named yearly since 2009 in Castle Connolly’s “America’s Top Doctors” for eating disorders. Belinda Caldwell currently works as a carer consultant and project manager for the Victorian Centre of Excellence in Eating Disorders, providing advice, support and training for clinicians and carers as well as managing a suite of early intervention eating disorders projects. Belinda is an experienced nurse/health manager. She was the CEO of the Australian Practice Nurses Association (APNA) for six-and-a-half years, until her daughter was diagnosed with anorexia nervosa in February 2011. Belinda and her family have helped her daughter to recover using the Maudsley Method. In the process, F.E.A.S.T. has been her lifeline and a connection to other families in similar situations. Belinda has also helped to establish Eating Disorders Families Australia, an Australian charity for families. Belinda has participated on the Steering Committee of Australia’s first, second and third eating disorders conferences for families and carers. “At Home with Eating Disorders” was held in May 2013 in Brisbane, May 2015 in Melbourne and May 2017 in Sydney. The conference was a partnership effort between The Butterfly Foundation, ANZAED, and F.E.A.S.T, in collaboration with state-specific organisations. In her current work, Belinda gets to contribute her lived experience and those of families she comes into contact with via F.E.A.S.T. and EDFA. She contributes to the development of training and resources for clinicians, as well as providing single-session family consultations to families through Victorian CAMH services. Beth Mayer, LICSW has been in the eating disorders field for 36 years. She is nationally recognized for her work in the eating disorders field and has spoken at conferences around the country. Mayer was the Executive Director of the Multi service eating disorder association until 2018 when she left to pursue a full time private practice. She has been the Program Director of three community-based adolescent programs for Riverside Community Care, a nonprofit, healthcare and human services organization that delivers mental health, early intervention and substance abuse treatment services throughout Eastern and Central Massachusetts. Cynthia M. Bulik, Ph.D., FAED, is the Founding Director of the University of North Carolina Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders, Distinguished Professor of Eating Disorders in the Department of Psychiatry in the UNC School of Medicine, Professor of Nutrition in the Gillings School of Global Public Health, and Professor in the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden where she directs the Centre for Eating Disorders Innovation. A clinical psychologist, Dr. Bulik received her BA from the University of Notre Dame and her MA and PhD from the University of California, Berkeley. She completed internships and post-doctoral fellowships at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic in Pittsburgh. She was the lead PI of the Anorexia Nervosa Genetics Initiative (ANGI) and is co-chair of the Eating Disorders Working Group of the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium. She has active research collaborations in more than 20 countries and has published more than 550 papers and chapters on eating disorders. Daniel Le Grange, PhD, holds a Distinguished Professorship at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where he is Benioff UCSF Professor in Children’s Health in the Department of Psychiatry UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences, and Eating Disorders Director in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr. Le Grange also is Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience at The University of Chicago. He received his doctoral education at the Institute of Psychiatry and the Maudsley Hospital, the University of London, and completed postdoctoral training at the University of London and the Maudsley Hospital, and at Stanford University School of Medicine, California. Dr. Le Grange’s research interests focuses primarily on treatment trials for adolescents with eating disorders. He has authored or co-authored more than 500 manuscripts, books, book chapters, and abstracts, and presented his work at more than 200 national and international scientific meetings. His focused scholarship has been translated into Chinese, Dutch, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, and Spanish. Dr. Le Grange is a Fellow of the Academy for Eating Disorders, a member of the Eating Disorders Research Society, Past Associate Editor for BMC Psychiatry, Associate Editor for the Journal of Eating Disorders and the European Eating Disorders Review, and Editorial Board member for the International Journal of Eating Disorders and Eating Behaviours. Dr. Debra Katzman is a Professor of Pediatrics in the Department of Pediatrics and University of Toronto (UofT) and Senior Associate Scientist at the Research Institute at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). In addition, she is a member of the Institute of Medicine at the UofT. Dr. Katzman co-established the Eating Disorders Program at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto in 1993 and was the Director of the Eating Disorders Program from 1993-2012. She was the Head of the Division of Adolescent Medicine SickKids from 2004-2012. Dr. Katzman is the Director for Health Science Research in Undergraduate Medical Education at the University of Toronto. Dr. Katzman is the Past-President of the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine (SAHM) and the Academy for Eating Disorders (AED). She was the Chair of AED’s Scientific Committee. She is a Fellow of the SAHM and AED. Dr. Katzman is the Chair of Past President’s Council at SAHM and SAHM Board Member. She is a member of the DSM Review Committee for Body Systems Disorders (Feeding and Eating, Elimination, Sleep-Wake, Sexual Dysfunction, Gender Dysphoria). Dr. Katzman is also the Immediate Past Chair of Specialty Committee for Adolescent Medicine and is currently the Chair of the Examination Committee at the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada. The focus of Dr. Katzman’s research program has been to study and understand the unique physiologic and developmental issues in children and adolescent with eating disorders. She has been particularly interested in the medical complications associated with pediatric eating disorders, especially osteoporosis, brain structure and function, and amenorrhea. New research priorities include exploration and improvement in the current diagnostic classification of eating disorders in children and adolescents. Dr. Katzman has published more than 150 articles, abstracts, book chapters, and editorials. Dr. Katzman co-edited a book for parents on eating disorders, “Help for Eating Disorder: A Parent’s Guide to Symptoms, Causes and Treatment.” In addition, she is the senior associate editor for the adolescent medicine textbook, “Adolescent and Young Adult Health Care: A Practical Guide 6th edition.” Dr. Katzman is on the editorial board of the Journal of Adolescent Health and the International Journal of Eating Disorders. Dr. Katzman was the recipient of the 2012 McMaster University Alumni Award and the 2013 Academy for Eating Disorders’ Leadership Award for Clinical, Administrative or Educational Service. Dr. Lauren Muhlheim, Psy.D., FAED, CEDS is a psychologist, certified eating disorder specialist (CEDS), and IAEDP (International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals) - approved supervisor who provides evidence-based treatment for eating disorders in the outpatient setting. She directs Eating Disorder Therapy LA in Los Angeles and is able to provide teletherapy in California and New York. She provides cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for adults and family-based treatment (FBT) for adolescents and adheres to Health at Every Size ® principles. She is certified in FBT by the Training Institute for Child and Adolescent Eating Disorders. Dr. Muhlheim is the author of When your Teen Has an Eating Disorder: Practical Strategies to Help Your Teen Overcome Anorexia, Bulimia, and Binge Eating, published by New Harbinger Publications in September, 2018. This book is an FBT-based book for parents who are helping adolescents with eating disorders. Dr. Muhlheim is active in several professional organizations. Dr. Jacinta Tan is a research psychiatrist and medical ethicist. She is also an honorary consultant psychiatrist in the Adult Tier 3 Specialist Eating Disorder Team of the Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board. A multidisciplinary academic with degrees in Philosophy and Psychology, Child Health and Sociology, Jacinta spent many years researching mental capacity in anorexia nervosa at the University of Oxford, research that was based on hour upon hour of in depth exploration of the experiences of patients and families. Jacinta is particularly proud to be the founder and convenor of the Welsh Eating Disorder Research Development Group since 2012, and the Law and Ethics of Anorexia Nervosa – Values in Practice (LEAN-ViP) network of the Collaborating Centre for Values Based Practice in Health and Social Care since 2017. She is also a founding editor and now Senior Editor for the Biomed Central open access journal Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Mental Health. She works with NHS clinicians, researchers, the third sector, patients, and carers to develop research for eating disorders and values based practice. Jacinta is currently tasked by the Welsh Government to lead the Eating Disorder Service Review for Wales, and is working with the support of a team of ten lay representatives to build a new eating disorder system for Wales which is centered on the wishes and needs of those who know best, namely those who suffer from eating disorders and their families. Her vision as the sole eating disorder clinical academic in Wales is to co-develop interdisciplinary eating disorder and ethics research together with patients, families, other clinicians and academic partners, which examines issues at the coalface of treatment and thereby directly improves healthcare for eating disorders across the lifespan in Wales. Professor Janet Treasure is a psychiatrist who has specialised in the treatment of eating disorders for more than 35 years. She is a consultant at the South London and Maudsley hospital and a Professor at Kings College London. She has worked extensively with patients and carers to develop new treatments. During her career she has been awarded several prizes from learned societies and the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for her work with eating disorders. She is a trustee of several eating disorder and psychiatric charities. During her career, she has edited seven academic texts on eating disorders and authored three self-help books, including, Getting Better Bite by Bite on Bulimia Nervosa, Anorexia Nervosa, a Survival Guide for Families, Friends and Sufferers, a book for people with anorexia nervosa, parents and teachers, and Caring for a Loved One with an Eating Disorder: a skills-based manual of the new Maudsley method, for families and parents of people with an eating disorder. Judith Banker, MA, LLP, FAED is the Founder and Executive Director of the Center for Eating Disorders, a non-profit support and outpatient treatment facility in Ann Arbor, Michigan, established in 1983. In addition, Judith is lead consultant to the Adult and Adolescent Eating Disorders Recovery Program, a partial hospitalization program (PHP) and IOP (adolescents) offered by St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. She lectures internationally on issues related to the diagnosis and treatment of eating disorders, including the role of the family as a member of the treatment team, the transdiagnostic role of the therapeutic alliance in successful treatment, and bridging the gap between research, practice, and patient and carer perspectives to improve treatment and research. Judith has published a number of articles and chapters addressing these issues. Laura Collins Lyster-Mensh, M.S., is a writer from Virginia who became an activist for improved eating disorder treatment after her teen daughter recovered from anorexia. Her book, Eating With Your Anorexic (McGraw Hill), is a memoir of her family's experience. Laura is an affiliate member of the Academy for Eating Disorders. She has been an invited speaker for the At Home With Eating Disorders Conference, EDIC, National Eating Disorders Association, the Academy for Eating Disorders, Renfrew Foundation, Ophelia's Place, the University of North Carolina Eating Disorders Program, and Eating Disorders Coalition conferences. She has written four books, two on eating disorders. In her leisure time she tap dances and watches very very old movies. Laura writes columns and produces podcasts on children’s mental health and has been interviewed by the Washington Post, The New York Times, BBC News, Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, NPR, and the Los Angeles Times. Laura has served on the F.E.A.S.T. Board of Directors since 2007 and has held positions as Executive Director, Policy Director, Board Member, and Outreach Director from its incorporation in 2009 until 2021. Lucene Wisniewski, PhD, FAED is a clinician, trainer, and researcher whose interests center around using empirically founded treatments to inform clinical practice. Lucene, an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Psychological Sciences at Case Western Reserve University, has taught more than 150 workshops, lectures and presentations on Cognitive Behavioral and Dialectical Behavior Therapies internationally and has over 40 publications in peer reviewed journals and invited book chapters. Lucene has been elected fellow, has served on the board of directors, and as the co-chair of the Borderline Personality Disorder special interest group of the Academy for Eating Disorders (AED). In 2013 the AED awarded Lucene the Outstanding Clinician Award to acknowledge her contribution to the field of eating disorder treatment. Dr. Mark Warren graduated from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Harvard Medical School. His practice focuses on bringing the most up-to-date research into evidence-based care. He serves on the faculty of Case Western Reserve School of Medicine and teaches at University Hospitals of Cleveland and The Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Dr. Warren is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a Fellow of the Academy of Eating Disorders, where he founded the SIGs for Males and Eating Disorders and also for Professionals and Recovery. He is currently on the Patient/Carer Committee of the AED. He is a two-time recipient of the Exemplary Psychiatrist Award of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill and a winner of the Woodruff Award. Rachel Bachner-Melman, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist specializing in the treatment and research of eating disorders. She has rich experience in treating eating disorders – at Hadassah University Medical Center, where she coordinated the eating disorders unit in the Adult Psychiatry ward from 2010-2011; at Lily Safra Children’s Hospital, in Chaim Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer; and at Koli, the Jerusalem Center for Recovery from Eating Disorders, which she founded in 2015 to help people with eating disorders and their carers. Her doctorate, from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, focused on genetic and personality factors associated with anorexia nervosa in athletes and non-athletes. Dr Bachner-Melman is a Senior Lecturer in the MA Clinical Psychology Program at the Ruppin Academic Center in Emek Hefer and the MA program in Social Work at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She has published more than 60 articles and book chapters, and regularly speaks at conferences in Israel and abroad. Dr. Peebles’ research interests focus on the health outcomes of disordered eating in adolescents of diverse weight ranges, and how the internet can be used as a vector to both help and harm young people as they try to approach a healthy weight. Dr. Sarah Ravin brings a fresh perspective to her clinical work, which is grounded in the latest scientific research on the etiology and treatment of mental disorders. Dr. Ravin earned a B.A. in Psychology from Smith College in 2001 and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from American University in 2008. Since 2009, she has been in solo private practice in Coral Gables, FL, where she provides consultation, assessment, and treatment for children, adolescents, and young adults with eating disorders, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and related issues. Dr. Ravin specializes in Maudsley Family-Based Treatment (FBT) for eating disorders as well as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for anxiety and depression. Channeling her natural energy, passion, dedication, perseverance, and optimism into her work, Dr. Ravin is committed to helping each patient achieve full recovery. An active member of the Academy for Eating Disorders (AED), the Association for the Advancement of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT), and the American Psychological Association (APA), Dr. Ravin also writes a popular blog on eating disorders and related topics in psychology. Therese S. Waterhous PhD, RDN, CEDRD-S is an eating disorder expert in private practice in Corvallis, Oregon. She has worked with families and their children for more than 25 years, having completed a pediatric fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham during graduate school. Dr. Waterhous was one of the founding board members for the international non-profit advocacy group FEAST-ED (Families Empowered and Supporting Treatment for Eating Disorders). She has worked with the Eating Disorders Coalition during two of its Washington DC lobbying days and she delivers many local talks to various groups, educating them about eating disorders. Dr. Waterhous co-authored the ADA Practice Paper on nutrition interventions in eating disorders, she served as Director of the Sports, Cardiovascular and Wellness nutrition practice group’s subunit on disordered eating and eating disorders. She has served on the Oregon IAEDP (International Assn. for Eating Disorders Professionals) chapter board and currently serves on the national IAEDP Excellence in Practice Committee. Dr. Waterhous served on the Academy for Eating Disorders (AED) special interest group on Family Based Treatment and currently is active on the Medical Care Standards Committee and the Patient Carer Committee of AED. Over the past year and a half, she received and has executed work on a grant from the local Coordinated Care Organization to train other health care professionals about eating disorder evaluation and treatment and extend eating disorder treatment to underserved Oregonians. Walter H. Kaye, M.D., is a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) and Director of the Eating Disorder Research and Treatment Program. Dr. Kaye attended Ohio State Medical School, trained in neurology at the University of Southern California, and trained in psychiatry at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Kaye was then a fellow and research physician at the National Institute of Mental Health for seven years where he conducted research on appetite regulation, behavior, and treatment for disorders. Dr. Kaye was on the faculty of the University of Pittsburgh for 20 years until joining UCSD. His current research is focused on exploring the relationship between brain and behavior using brain imaging and investigating new treatments in anorexia and bulimia nervosa. He is also the principal investigator for an international, multi-site collaboration on the genetics of anorexia and bulimia nervosa. Dr. Kaye has an international reputation in the field of eating disorders and is the author of more than 400 articles and publications.
