EDGI Seeking Your Eating Disorder Story

Dear Sir or Madam,

Through the new global research study, the Eating Disorders Genetics Initiative (EDGI), we are expanding our knowledge about how genes influence eating disorders which may eventually help to create better treatments. EDGI has successfully begun recruiting in New Zealand, Australia, and the United States with the ultimate goal of enrolling 100,000 individuals worldwide who have lived with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, or binge-eating disorder at any point in their lives. As part of our media outreach, we want to share the effects that eating disorders have on people’s lives.

I am reaching out to you to see if you or someone you know might be interested in sharing their story about living with an eating disorder. Our goal is to show why this research is important and to inspire people to participate in EDGI. As part of this, we are asking if you would like to work with our media specialist to write a profile about you or if you would like to be interviewed via video call. People who work with us are invited to share as little or much as they feel comfortable. Your story may be broadcasted on traditional and social media platforms, such as our website (edgi.org), FacebookInstagram, and Twitter in text or video formats.

Thank you for taking the time to read and share this email. If you are interested or have any questions, you can reach out to us at edgi@unc.edu. If someone you know is interested, please send this letter to them and have them contact us directly. When you reach out to us, let us know if you’re interested in taking next steps with us to create a written profile, video recording, or both. You can also visit our website edgi.org to learn more about the study.

Kind regards,

Cynthia Bulik, PhD

Hi, my daughter would love to participate, but her diagnosis was Atypical Anorexia. Are you accepting these people into the study? Thanks
