Euthanasia and Eating Disorders: F.E.A.S.T. Position Statement published

F.E.A.S.T. published a Position Statement this week to address the recent media coverage of euthanasia (assisted dying) and eating disorders.

Euthanasia and Eating Disorders

The statement was drafted, edited, and benefited from the quotes of several eating disorder experts and families affected by the issue. Our goal was to address some of the myths around eating disorders being spread in media around a recent death of an eating disorder sufferer, but not to discuss that tragic situation.

To open up a discussion on the topic, we held a live event on July 11 that can now be viewed online:

Our deeply moving live discussion involved dozens of participants in real time, several on-screen guests, and has now been viewed by thousands of people around the world, all adding their comments and contributions.

We want to thank the F.E.A.S.T. Board, Advisors, volunteers, and the community.

We specifically want to acknowledge the contributions of Dr. Jacinta Tan,  Dr. June Alexander, Shannon Calvert,  Dr. Angela Guarda,  Dr. Craig Johnson, Lisa, and Judy Krasna who were all quoted in the Statement.

These are tough topics, but at F.E.A.S.T. we are committed to the courage required to face and discuss difficult things. Those experiencing an eating disorder deserve a parent and advocacy and professional community willing to do difficult things.

Our Tough Topic Thursday series continues in August:
