F.E.A.S.T. is Looking For Parent Support Volunteers

F.E.A.S.T. is looking for new parent support volunteers to join our fantastic moderator and parent support lines teams. Here are some requirements:

  • Applicants should be well-suited to offer parent support.
  • Applicants should be well-versed in eating disorders and their treatment. Familiarity with current research is definitely a plus!
  • Applicants should be in a place in their own journey where they have the capacity to help others without it being too draining or difficult on themselves. Parent support can be triggering; and even under the best of circumstances, it is challenging.
  • Applicants should be willing to dedicate a few hours up front for F.E.A.S.T. peer support training and at least one hour per month for ongoing education. Even if you have done peer support before, F.E.A.S.T. has our own training program that is specific to our principles and our methods.
  • Applicants should have ample time to dedicate to parent support (exact amount of time needed varies by platform).

If you are interested in becoming a parent support volunteer, please fill out this form.

My D was diagnosed with RAN in September 2019. She was hospitalised for 10 days and then we did FBT at home with weekly psychologist support. We live in Australia so there is no residential option.
My D was weight restored plus in 4 mths and has maintained since then and has recently started a job. I also have another D 30 who was diagnosed about 15 years ago when parents were blamed. Unfortunately I have had no relationship for the past 5 years when she relapsed so I really understand the emotional toll of ED.
I gave up work as an RN and retired after 42 years to support my D through FBT so I now have plenty of time to dedicate to parent support. I feel l have learnt about a lot about ED on this journey and would like to learn more and be able to support patents through this.
I’m passionate about support. Another parent and I decided to start a local support group and website for parents in Adelaide, South Australia in January 2020 as there was nothing locally. I organise regular informal meetups so parents can meet face to face for support, COVID allowing! I would love to be considered for your team.
