FEAST of Knowledge: The Balance Between Lived Experience and Professional Knowledge

FEAST of Knowledge 2022 will take place on Sunday, March 27, between 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. EST US. The event features a combination of lived experience experts and professional experts who will be sharing their knowledge and wisdom. If you take a look at the program, you will see that concurrent workshop session #4 is a prime example of this balance.

Emily Boring will be presenting on the topic of “When In Doubt Aim Higher: Science, Experience, and Target Weights.” As someone affected by an eating disorder, Emily will speak firsthand about how setting her target weight too low negatively impacted her ability to achieve and sustain recovery. She will incorporate current science into her presentation and use her own lived experience to inform and guide this workshop.

F.E.A.S.T. Advisor Dr. Lauren Mulheim will co-present with Shira Rosenbluth on the topic of “Supporting Adults With Eating Disorders.” Shira brings both clinical and personal perspective to the table. We know that there are less resources dedicated to eating disorder treatment for adults and less support available in general for parents of adults affected by eating disorders. This workshop will offer valuable insight, practical information, and direction to those parents and caregivers supporting an older individual.

Dr. Mark Warren, who is also a FEAST Advisor, will be presenting with Dr. Anna Tanner on the topic of eating disorders in males. Whereas eating disorders used to be considered an illness affecting females, we now know that males are heavily affected. Learn more about what eating disorders in males look like, how they are treated, and what parents need to know.
