F.E.A.S.T. Members support the AED's Medical Risk Management Guide Initiative

F.E.A.S.T., the Riederer Foundation, MEDA, and others help the AED print and distribute a NEW Medical Management Guide for Primary Care Physicians

Primary Care Physicians are often the first professionals to be consulted regarding an eating disorder.  However, they often know very little about these illnesses.  With this in mind, the Erin Riederer Foundation, F.E.A.S.T. and MEDA (Multi-service Eating Disorder Association) are going to collaborate to distribute the newly released Academy for Eating Disorders medical care booklets (Booklet on Medical Risk Management and other useful information for Pediatricians at the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) National Conference, which will be held in October 2011 in Boston MA, USA.

F.E.A.S.T. (with the help of the Erin Riederer Foundation) has secured an exhibit booth for this purpose and we now need to print copies of the AED booklets for this endeavor.  We would like to have at least 10,000 copies for distribution. Printing of 10,000 copies delivered directly to MEDA's offices (since the AAP will be in Boston) will cost approximately $3,700. In addition, we would like to have $300 for mailings (up to 100 copies each) to important organizations/educational institutions that we make contact with at the conference. Therefore, we need to raise $4,000 for this project.  $2,000 has been pledged, so we are half way there!

F.E.A.S.T. is now raising funds to support the additional $2,000 needed for this project. To contribute to this initiative, make a donation through

Note: If additional funds are raised during this campaign, they will be used to print and distribute the AED booklets at future eating disorder meetings and/or mailings to appropriate agencies and organizations.

Thank you for your support for this important this collaborative effort!

As a childhood feeding specialist and family doctor, I would love to see the pamphlet. On another note, I am seeing some really sad trends. The obesity hysteria is fueling a tragic intervention model where infants, yes, I said infants are being put on diets. I was so angry yesterday after reviewing a growth chart for a girl who has been restricted since 8 months, now 3 years old who is obsessed with food, it is tearing the family apart, and every specialist says, "you have to or she will be obese, she will learn to get used to normal portions."(FYI, when plotted correctly, she was at the 75% at 8 months, and still is today...) This is such a complex issues, and the docs, who truly care are sadly uninformed on so many levels. I see 5 and 6 and 7 year olds who have been on diets for YEARS, who are now sneaking in bathrooms at neighbors' and binging. Is there any way to include or get the word out about normal growth and feeding? I get far too many calls from tearful parents who are doing

Thank you so much for this important work. I really believe that this is where the message needs to come over loud and clear - in general medicine where all families will have contact, not just in the more rarefied eating disorders world.

I am so grateful to all of you for being there and for the many people who made this possible. It has been an honor to serve on the FEAST Medical Education Task Force with such talented and committed people. This is wonderful to hear that physicians were welcoming of the booklet and acknowledge that it is needed. I look forward to hearing about some of these substantive conversations about the issues. Thank you for everything you all did to make this happen. Becky Henry Hope Network
