How can I advocate for improved ED care and treatment?

Parent Advocacy

Many parents find it healing to get involved with campaigning or activism for improved diagnosis, treatment, and public understanding of eating disorders. This activism can be a positive way to channel frustrations experienced during treatment and to "pay it forward" for the support of other families along the way. F.E.A.S.T. strongly encourages campaigning and activism and welcomes all parents - regardless of the status or outcome of the illness - to join in our efforts to support and encourage improvement in eating disorder treatment.

Ideas for parents:

  • Join, donate, and/or volunteer for F.E.A.S.T.
  • Attend eating disorder events and conferences
  • Speak out in your community, in social situations, at schools, and in your religious community
  • Respond to coverage in the media through our social media outlets
  • Be interviewed in the media
  • Join a local or national eating disorder organization
  • Write a book, an article, or a blog to share your experience with the public
  • Write your story for F.E.A.S.T.'s Parent Stories Collection
  • Write letters to editors, reporters, websites
  • Review books, and suggest links and articles
  • Tell us about websites that are particularly positive or potentially misleading
