Study on Canadian COVID Regulations and Youth Psychiatric Inpatients

Navigating children’s best interests in child psychiatric inpatient settings during the height of the COVID pandemic: a qualitative participatory research study

McGill University is conducting a study aimed at understanding how hospital COVID-19 infection control regulations were experienced by patients and their family members within inpatient child and adolescent psychiatric units in Canada. We are hoping to recruit youth that were hospitalized and family members who had a child/family member that was hospitalized in an inpatient psychiatric unit between March 2020 and June 2022, to participate in focus group discussions.

There will be separate discussions for youth and family members. The discussion will ask them to share their experiences with the COVID regulations during their/ their family members hospital stay, as well any thoughts for how to improve inpatient care during public health emergencies. All participants will remain confidential throughout the discussion. Focus groups will last 1-2 hours with approximately 5 other participants. Compensation will be provided.
