Regional Resources for Families

Eating Disorders Families Australia (

Eating Disorders Families Australia (EDFA) has been established by a group of Australian parents who have cared for and treated a young person with an eating disorder, to advocate for the needs and roles of other parents during this experience. EDFA is focusing it’s attention on providing peer support in person, supporting siblings, providing information packs for the families of newly diagnosed and working with clinicians and treatment service providers to be more carer inclusive.

Temperament Based Therapy with Supports (TBT-S)
Workshops and Training
Clinicians and carers learn how to address eating behaviour in EDs from a brain basis based on the latest information from a neuroscientific perspective.
Come & learn from the founders of TBT-S about this new evidence informed multi-family treatment for patients 16 and over with Anorexia Nervosa (AN). The temperament‐focused treatment combines psychoeducation of AN neurobiology and involvement of supports (families/carers) to develop skills to manage traits contributing to disease chronicity. Both the one day workshop and the 4 day training will address how to

  • better manage eating disorder symptoms by working with AN traits
  • reduce mealtime avoidance and distress
  • increase effectiveness of client-support interactions to support recovery

TBT-S workshop, Auckland, 11 February 2019
Three international experts, Laura Hill, Stephanie Peck and Christina Wierenga, highly regarded in the treatment and research of eating disorders, will present this one-day workshop for carers and clinicians. The workshop will introduce Temperament Based Therapy with Supports (TBT-S) a brain-based therapy approach for Anorexia Nervosa for those aged 16 and over, that complements other evidence-based treatments currently available for this serious condition.
